Common skin conditions such as atopic skin and blemish-prone skin are prevalent in darker skin individuals and are often associated with ceramide deficiencies and skin barrier disruption, which can lead to increased water lost through the skin. To improve skin barrier function, application of products containing ceramides has been shown over time to help replenish lipid levels, reduce moisture loss, and increase hydration. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream contains a mixture of 3 skin-identical ceramides: ceramide 1, ceramide 3, and ceramide 6-II, cholesterol, fatty acids, and phytosphingosine which all play an important role in skin barrier restoration.Dark skin tones, refers to individuals with darker skin, or Fitzpatrick skin types IV through VI.

To understand your skin barrier better, think of your stratum corneum (the skin barrier) as a brick wall-like structure. It is comprised of corneocytes (bricks) held in place by intercellular lipids (mortar). These intercellular lipids are composed primarily of 50% ceramides, 25% cholesterol and 10-20% fatty acids. Over time, the depletion of ceramides can result in moisture loss, dryness and cracking and/or inflammation and irritation from allergens and toxins on the skin barrier.

Yes, the CeraVe range of products are non-comedogenic, so they won’t clog pores or cause acne. All CeraVe products are fragrance-free and non-irritating.

MVE stands for MultiVesicular Emulsion technology and is a patented delivery system. Unlike convertional delivery systems, MVE technology continuously releases the ceramide enriched formula throughout the day for 24h hydration and improved results.
